As I noted in a previous blog, embracing a more natural, environmentally-friendly lifestyle has to start with the small things. I am proud to work for Unique because it is this mentality that we are embracing. It feels to me that many times the “Green” label is used by companies just to make a quick buck, but in reality the companies behind these products don’t embrace a “natural” mentality in their products or business practices at all. We are striving to be different. We produce safe drain cleaners, safe RV holding tank treatment, all-natural cleaners. We even have a product that naturally and safely removes oil stains from driveways and removes the grime on engines. Our products are truly green. These products are the things you see, but what about behind the scenes? It’s behind the scenes that show what a company’s true priorities are.
Here are a few things that we are doing behind the scenes:
- Unique uses packaging that appropriately fits the products that we are sending out. Avoiding excessive packaging goes a long way in curtailing waste.
- For packaging material we re-use shrink wrap and other leftover materials that most would normally throw away.
- Because we have bottles shipped to us, we deal with TONS of cardboard, and as mentioned in an earlier blog we make sure that we recycle the cardboard and any damaged or defective bottles.
- We also recycle our 55 gallon drums that our raw materials come in. Another company washes them out and reuses them.
These are just a few of the things that we are doing to try to become more responsible in the environmental footprint that we leave behind. But we still have plenty of room to grow! One idea that we are starting to mull over is a move to an increasingly paperless system, but we still have some work to do to make that happen. Do you have any ideas for us?
