Our poodle Lulu is a crazy fun loving girl. She loves to play and hike with other dogs. Fanny, after having had puppies, is crabby at first but then always joins in and has lots of fun. Because we live out of the city, our friends and relatives like to bring their dogs over and it is great because our girls just welcome them and start playing.
I was so excited to bring the puppy home for Lulu! She is always up to play, and she even adopted our cat as hers when we brought her home as a kitten. Her name is Mondo but we call her Lulu’s puppy since she grooms her and they play and hunt mice together. Mondo has made Lulu into an excellent mouser. I knew she would be thrilled with the new family member. Wrong! She hates him! Somehow she knows he is staying and he is going to take some of her attention. Fanny is pretty crabby as well. They both growled every time the puppy touched them the first week. Finally, one night we caught Fanny actually playing and interacting with him. He wants desperately to be their friend. He wags his little stub tail and gets all excited when he sees them. I think the fluffy ears and tails may be part of the problem. They are awfully tempting for a curious little pup. After a full week Lulu finally started playing a little and will let him touch her without growling, so signs are good he is working his way into their hearts as much as he has the rest of the family. Oh, but the cat is a big problem! The puppy has never seen one and really wants to play. He sits and barks at her so we will see how that progresses. He has met the tortoise but that is kind of a boring, big-thing that doesn’t interact too much. Now, the chickens… the chickens are fascinating to him! He sits outside their pen and watches “chicken TV’ for long periods of time. When they come to him he gets scared and runs in the house. Our cochins are as tall as him, so they are pretty intimidating. They are just as curious about him. An exciting place for a curious lad. We’re hoping it may be a peaceable kingdom again soon!
